(CNN Spanish) – The 16 teams that will play the round of 16 of the Women’s Soccer World Cup are already known. From the American continent, only three teams managed to advance; United States, Colombia and Jamaica.
On the last day of the group stage, Colombia lost 1-0 to Morocco and, despite that, they managed to reach the round of 16 as first in group H with 6 points.
The South Americans won two of the three games they played: the first 2-0 against South Korea, the second they beat Germany 2-1, and in this last game they fell 0-1 against Morocco. The Africans achieved second place in the group and left Germany out of the World Cup, which drew 1-1 with South Korea.
What next for Colombia?
Colombia will face Jamaica in Melbourne on Tuesday, August 8 and what lies ahead for the Colombians is not easy: in the three group stage matches Jamaica did not conceded a single goal and in their last match they eliminated Brazil.

Between disappointments and surprises
The United States will face Sweden on Sunday, August 6, also at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
The current world champions won only one game in the group stage, and drew the other two. That is why they went to the round of 16 as second in Group E behind the Netherlands, in one of the surprises of the tournament.

For its part, Sweden advanced to the round of 16 in first place in group G by beating South Africa 2-1, Italy 5-0 and Argentina 2-0. The South Africans achieved second place and put Italy behind.

Brazil and Germany were the great disappointments of the first phase, when they were eliminated. The Brazilians, despite never having won a World Cup, only obtaining a second place in 2007, appeared as one of the South American cards.

What happened in Germany was even worse: the two-time world champions (2003 and 2007) and finalists in 1995, could not get past the group stage, after the hard loss against Colombia on the second date and the combination of results at the end of the Group H, where they barely equaled against Korea.
