Don’t forget that the most important ˝ingredient˝ that makes a rustic kitchen a success is the furniture. This is where the problems come along: wooden furniture is never cheap. You could plan your kitchen from scratch and buy random pieces of furniture from eBay or antiquaries. But it’s improbable to find everything you need at a bargain price.
Adding a focal point to your kitchen - by using a different style cabinet on a specific wall, or over the cooktop, you can add a splash of color and create a focal point for the room. This is a great way to add some personality to your kitchen, and can be a great way to experiment with a color that may be too bold for the entire room.
For starters, get the lighting right. No kitchen design however big or small can be successful without the right level of light. You need natural light from windows, surrounding rooms and even skylights during the day and artificial light from bulbs, spotlights and LEDs when it gets dark. Light makes small spaces seem a lot bigger, but what it can do for already large spaces is add warmth and make the room a pleasant environment to inhabit 24 hours a day.
