Cricket World Cup 2023: Injuries rule out Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga

Following a failure to recover from a hamstring injury, Sri Lanka’s leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the World Cup starting next week.

In 48 ODIs has the 26-year-old taken 67 wickets at an average of 28.77, being a key player for Sri Lanka in white-ball cricket.


In addition, Seamer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out due to a pectoral injury.


On October 5th, the 50-over World Cup in India starts, and on October 7th, Sri Lanka plays South Africa.

“Hasaranga’s recovery will be monitored, and if he is declared fit to play he will be considered as a replacement in the event of an injury to a squad member during the tournament”, announced Sri Lanka Cricket.
