At least 18 dead in a bus accident in western Mexico

(CNN Spanish) — At least 18 people died after a passenger bus that was traveling through Tepic, in western Mexico, crashed, Citizen Protection and Firefighters of the state of Nayarit reported this Thursday.

Among the deceased there are 15 adults -5 women and 10 men- and three minors -two girls and one boy.

The event occurred at kilometer 27 of the North Tepic Bypass, near the town of Barranca Blanca. The vehicle belonging to the Elite line and bound for Tijuana left the route and fell down a ravine, the authority indicated on its social networks.

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection and the Nayarit Fire Department, in coordination with the Mexican Red Cross, the Secretary of Defense, the National Guard and the AMEC Group, traveled to the area of the accident to assist the victims.

In total 19 people of different ages who were injured and were treated, according to the authorities.
